The following is a list of all current house rules for the Dalleth Campaign Setting.
A "house rule" is anything that modifies the or adds to the standard game mechanics.
- Character death occurs at (-10 - Con modifier - Character Level) hp. This helps the spellcasters stay alive.
- At level up, characters receive 1d(n/2) + n/2 + Con modifier hit points, where 'n' is their normal hit die. This, again, helps the spellcasters stay alive. (Another way of thinking about that equation is "if you roll on the low half of the die, add half the die to the roll")
- You may only have 2 prestige classes that are not completed at any one time. For example, if Lelinia the Red
has 6 Levels in Darkblade and 3 Levels in Duelist, she cannot take a level in Lord of Destruction until either the
Darkblade or the Duelist is Level 10.
- If you roll a natural 1 on an attack roll, you not only automatically miss, but you must make a reflex save (DC 15) or fumble. If you fail the save, something bad happens. Exactly what is at the DM's discretion; usually this just means you drop your weapon. Other, similar effects may occur where contextually appropriate.
- Called shots do not exist. You are assumed to be aiming at the most vulnerable spot you know about when you attack. If you make a critical hit, it may cause injury, either temporary or permanent, to one of your target's body parts if enough damage is dealt (temp at 25% of target's max HP, permanent at 50%). The exact nature of the damage is at the DM's discretion, but as a general rule, piercing weapons will take out eyes, take off ears, etc. Slashing weapons (non-vorpal) might remove limbs. The downside, of course, is that enemies' critical hits can injure you permanently as well.
- The death counter: The first time a PC dies, the player makes a new character at average party level. After that, however, each new character that player makes will enter the game at an increasing number of levels below the party level. Your third character enters the game at 1 level below party level, your fourth at 2 below, etc. If your entry level is 0 or less, you may not re-enter the game until the party reaches an average level that would let you re-enter. Furthermore, your slot in the game will be considered open to new players, so if I let someone else in, you might not get back in the game at all. I don't expect this to actually happen, as the death count has been relatively low in my games lately, and these days my games don't have a waiting list any more.
